Vitamin B12 for Vegan Vegetarian or Meat-eaters

posted in: Nutrition | 0

I have been trying to find a reliable real food source of Vitamin B12 since my family chose to eat mostly vegan. Nutritional Yeast is fortified with B12, but not something I want to eat everyday. I also do not want to have to take a pill or eat large amounts of eggs. It is estimated that at least 40% of the population may be B12 deficient. I fall in that 40%. I have a B12 deficiency found via blood work. Your Doctor can order this as well as other tests that aren’t normally ordered so you too may see if you fall into the 40% category.

There are a few different forms of Vitamin B12 supplements. I won’t go into full detail, but the one that is most widely used (because of the cost) is bound to cyanide.

So if you would like to ensure that your body continues to get a constant supply of Vitamin B12, the source that is best to use is a methylcobalamin source. Preferably a sub-lingual form. I have not found one in particular that I recommend yet. I will post here when I do.
